Potential Future Applications
IDesia is actively seeking strategic partnerships for joint development of potential future products and applications that can leverage its BDS™ technology's unique features and benefits.
IDesia is open to both development and co-development agreements with OEMs and systems integrators. Under development agreements, IDesia will implement specific hardware or a software security application based on BDS™ authentication within finished products. Under co-development agreements, IDesia and its partners will jointly develop customized, high-end security products based on IDesia’s BDS™ platform.
Potential future applications that can be implemented include:
- |
Smart cards for ID documentation, e-passport or credit card security |
- |
Fusion systems, combining BDS™ and other biometric platforms for high end security applications |
- |
BDS™ technology embedded in other IC silicon solutions. |

BDS™ can serve as the basis for ground-breaking ISO smart cards, enabling biometric sensing capabilities directly within cards, a feature no other biometric technology can offer.
Among the BDS™ platform's numerous significant advantages for smart cards are:
- |
Small form factor, enabling thin, wallet-sized cards that comply with standard ISO thickness and flexibility requirements |
- |
Affordable pricing for standalone cards |
- |
Ability to work with standard smart card readers |
| - | Enhanced optional features including "challenge response" for even greater security |
| - | High suitability to a range of smart card applications, including homeland security/defense/national IDs, corporate and enterprise security, B2B security, IT security and commerce/credit card security |
A typical BDS™ Smart Card implementation will likely consist of BDS™ contacts, the BDS™ Sensor Chipset and the smart card's own chip. The smart card chip will transmit digital BDS™ signals to an external reader for processing. The external reader will provide the power required for signal acquisition and template matching.
BDS™ Pro-Smart Card
IDesia's technology may also be utilized to develop enhanced BDS™ Pro-Smart Cards, which can go beyond standard BDS™ Smart Card offerings with such fully independent capabilities as:
- |
An integrated bio-electronic signal reader (sensor chip) |
- |
Data porting (contact via card contacts, or contact-less via NFC, RF-TR or backscatter for short or long range) |
- |
Integrated thin batteries (primary or rechargeable) to powers the BDS™ engine, and if required, contact-less RF communication |

High security applications, such as coporate security and fraud detection, typically demand very high biometric performance. One approach to achieving the performance levels required is to employ multiple biometric modalities, in what is referred to as a multimodal fusion approach.
BDS™ is the only biometric technology that supports joint integration with fingerprint biometrics within a single device, enabling implementation of more user-friendly, more secure and less expensive multimodal biometric systems. One or both IDesia sensors can be made to incorporate an optical fingerprint sensor. IDesia's processing hardware can then "piggyback" fingerprint analysis systems, or be designed directly in line with such systems.
This combination of the two orthogonal biometric modalities - BDS™ and fingerprint reading - is bound to deliver exponentially higher security performance.
